Frequently Asked Questions
For information specific to Oregon Divorce or for Oregon DUI, check out those sections of the website.
1. How much will my case cost?
The cost of your case depends entirely on its complexity. For an Oregon DUI diversion entry the cost is usually $750, but depending on what accompanying charges you have (such as reckless driving), the cost could be more.
Our retainer for a divorce case is $2500 and any costs beyond the initial retainer are directly related to how willing everyone is to make a deal. The harder it is to make a deal, the longer the case goes on. We always strive to end divorces in agreement. If that is not possible and trial becomes necessary, we will be able to work out a fair trial fee depending on your case.
2. What makes a case more or less complex in figuring out a fee?
A simple criminal case is one where you are facing a single criminal charge. The more charges that are added, the more complex your case becomes. You might also have constitutional legal challenges to the charges, you might require a trial by judge or jury, or you may need our help to find the right treatment program to keep you out of jail.
In Oregon Family Law cases, there might not be such thing as a "simple" case. In some scenarios it is easy to reach a deal with the opposing party because you might not have a lot of assets to divide or you might not have children whose custody we need to decide. As the amount of assets increases in a divorce, as parents argue over child custody and spousal support and child support -- things can get pretty hairy pretty quickly.
Luckily for our clients, we offer fixed-fee family law options. If you have an Oregon Family Law issue then the first step is for you to schedule a consultation with us by calling us at 503.922.1923. We will meet with you for $35 and give you our best opinion on what you are likely facing. We will give you a quote on what it would take for us to represent you and you can take your time to make a decision. Our fee structure includes a flat fee up front. If we can settle your case without going to trial then that is all you will have to pay. If court apperances are required then there are additional fees depending on the type of appearance.
